Box Score JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - The Lander women's basketball team placed three players in double figures Sunday afternoon, but the Lady Bearcats are still looking for the season's first victory as they fell to non-conference opponent Carson-Newman, 66-57, in the PBC/SAC Clash in Holt Fieldhouse.
Lander, which led, 40-33, at halftime, falls to 0-2, while Carson-Newman improves to 2-0.
Bre Crum led the way for the Bearcats with 13 points and seven rebounds, while Breshay Johnson had 11 points, Ty'Hesha Reynolds 10 points, and Brianna Gipson eight points and 10 rebounds. Crum and Aarika Judge were named to the all-tournament team.
Lander outrebounded Carson-Newman, 39-38.
The Lady Eagles were led by Tatum Burstrom's 15 points, while Kailyn Brooks had 12 points and five rebounds, and Allison Hodge 10 points.
The Bearcats connected on 22-of-61 field goals (36.1 percent), including 7-of-21 threes (33.3 percent), and 6-of-9 foul shots (66.7 percent).
Carson-Newman sank 19-of-52 field goals (36.5 percent), including 8-of-27 three pointers (29.6 percent), and 20-of-28 free throws (71.4 percent).
Lander will next host Brewton-Parker at 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, in a non-conference game in Horne Arena.
