FLORENCE – The second-seeded Lander men's tennis team defeated fourth-seeded Georgia College, 5-2, Sunday afternoon to claim third place in the Peach Belt Conference Men's Tennis Tournament hosted by Francis Marion at the Dr. Eddie Floyd Florence Tennis Center.
Seventh-ranked Lander improves to 15-3 overall, while No. 17 Georgia College is 18-6.
Both teams now must wait to see if they will earn a berth into next week's regional tournaments.
After Lander won two of three doubles matches, the Bearcats only needed to claim three singles to earn the victory.
In doubles, No. 1 Johan Wadstein/Andreas Ainalides (GC) def. #13 August Iwdal/Adam Jonsson (LU) 8-4; No. 2 Paul-Henri Arrigoni/Vincent Verpeaux (LU) def. Wictor Andersson/Yannick Hass (GC) 9-7; and No. 3 Samuel Poutignat/Oscar Axellson (LU) def. Taylor Powell/Alex Schubert (GC) 8-3.
