Box Score AIKEN – The Lander women's basketball team placed five players in double figures Saturday afternoon in an 85-81 overtime loss to non-conference foe Anderson University at the Holley Tractor/Crescent Automotive Conference Challenge hosted by USC Aiken at the Convocation Center.
Lander and Anderson are both 1-1 on the season.
Kayla West netted 14 points for the Lady Bearcats, while Alyssia Watkins, Ty'hesha Reynolds and Alexis Armstrong scored 13 each and Portia McCray chipped in 12. Armstrong, who had a double-double, led the team with 11 rebounds and Watkins grabbed nine.
For Anderson, Jasmine Franklin scored a game-high 22 points, while Lesley Woods added 20 points and seven rebounds, Katie Davis had 16 points and seven rebounds, and Sierra Simpson had 10 points.
Lander connected on 30-of-76 field goals for 29.5 percent, including 6-of-25 threes for 24 percent. The Lady Bearcats also made 15-of-22 free throws for 68.2 percent.
The Lady Trojans made 30-of-63 floor shots for 47.6 percent, including 7-of-12 threes for 58.3 percent. Anderson sank 18-of-24 free throws for 75 percent.
Anderson, which led 35-30 at halftime, outrebounded the Lady Bearcats, 48-38.
Lander will next host host North Greenville University at 5:30, Wednesday Nov. 13 in Horne Arena.
