WINTER PARK, Fla. – Lander's Rob Prior claimed his first collegiate tournament Tuesday when he shot a 9-under-par 207 and led the No. 22-ranked Bearcats to a second-place tie in the two-day, three-round, 16-team McDonough Cup, hosted by Rollins College at the par-72, 7,152-yard Eagle Creek Golf Club.
Prior, a junior from Surrey, England, shot 68-70-69=207 and finished four strokes in front of Armstrong Atlantic's Travis Williamson (72-70-69) and Carson-Newman's Jonathan Kim-Moss (72-68-71), who tied for second place.
Among the participants in the McDonough Cup were: defending NCAA Division II national champion and top-ranked Barry, No. 3 Lynn, No. 4 Nova Southeastern, No. 7 Columbus State, No. 11 Florida Southern, No. 14 Flagler, No. 16 Armstrong Atlantic, No. 19 Rollins and Lander.
Armstrong Atlantic won the team title with a low 857. Lander climbed two places from Monday's second round and tied Nova Southeastern for runner-up honors with 861. Florida Tech finished fourth at 865 and was followed by: 5. Mount Olive 871, 6. Columbus State 874, 7. Flagler 875, 8. Rollins, Barry and Lynn 876, 11. Florida Southern, Valdosta State and Eckerd 881, 14. Saint Leo and Carson-Newman 882, and 16 Tampa 902.
Lander's Jordan Ainley (74-71-71) tied for 14th place with 216, Eder Moreno (75-76-68) tied for 29th with 219, Carlos Solis (69-77-77) finished 52nd with 223, and Neal Todd (84-73-78) tied for 80th with 235.
