GREENWOOD – The UNC Pembroke women's basketball placed four players in double figures Saturday afternoon and upset No. 19 Lander, 63-62, on Senior Day in a Peach Belt Conference game in Horne Arena. UNCP improves to 15-11 overall and 12-6 in the PBC, while Lander slips to 20-6, 15-3. The loss to the Lady Braves snapped a seven-game win streak against UNCP.

Brittni Johnson led Lander with 22 points, while Ciara Lyons added 13 points and eight rebounds. Precious Elkins had seven rebounds.

UNCP was led by Amelia Partin, who netted 18 points, while Taylor Gallentine had 12 points and seven assists, Jasmine Hairston 12 points and DeDe Cotten 11 points and nine rebounds.

After trailing 29-27 at halftime, the two teams battled through eight ties, the final one at 58-58 with 2:58 remaining in the game.

Gallentine gave the Lady Braves the lead for good with two free throws that made it 60-58 with 2:29 left to play. Lander's Lyons and UNCP's Hairston traded free throws to make it 61-59 at 1:02, then the Braves went up 63-59 on back-to-back foul shots by Partin and Jazmine Kemp.

Johnson's three with five seconds remaining completed the scoring.

Lander jumped out to an 8-0 start and held an eight-point lead on three other occasions before stretching it to nine, its biggest of the lead, at 22-13 on a Johnson jumper with 5:38 left in the half.

The Braves went on a 10-0 run on three pointers by Cotten and Partin, and two free throws and a layup by Domonique Washington to take a 23-22 lead with 3:53 left. After tying at 25- and 27-all, UNCP finished the half with a pair of Cotten free throws.

Lander connected on 21-of-60 field goals for 35 percent, including 9-of-30 threes for 30 percent. The Lady Bearcats also made 11-of-19 foul shots for 57.9 percent.

The Lady Braves made 20-of-47 from the floor for 42.6 percent, including 6-of-17 threes for 35.3 percent. UNCP also sank 17-of-24 free throws for 70. 8 percent.
