Box Score

PEMBROKE, N.C. – Aarika Judge tied Lander's single-game scoring record of 41 points and completed her double-double with 11 rebounds Monday night to lead the Lander women's basketball team to a 77-68 Peach Belt Conference victory over UNC Pembroke in the English E. Jones Center.

Judge tied Lorain Truesdale's long-standing scoring record, which she set against Georgia College during the 1992-93 season. Judge connected on 15-of-25 field goals, including 9-of-14 three pointers. She also sank 2-of-4 free throws.

Lander improves to 2-4 overall and evens its PBC record at 1-1, while UNCP drops to 5-4, 0-2.

Kenyona Armstrong added 14 points in the victory, while Precious Elkins netted 12 points and grabbed five rebounds. Emili Russ and Jamie Shaw each totaled six rebounds.

UNCP was led by Taylor Gallentine's 20 points, while Jazmine Kemp scored 16 and Amelia Partin 12. Chandrica Fuller and Jasmine Hairston each had a team-high six rebounds.

Lander, which led 39-26 at halftime, connected on 29-of-60 field goals (48.3 percent), including 13-of-30 threes (43.3 percent). The Lady Bearcats also sank 6-of-11 free throws (54.5 percent).

The Lady Braves made 25-of-63 floor shots (39.7 percent), including 8-of-18 threes (44.4 percent), and 10-of-13 foul shots (76.9 percent).

UNCP sprinted out to a 7-0 lead to start the game before Judge scored her first points on a layup at 16:25. A pair of Elkins free throws at 9:42 gave Lander its first lead at 17-16 – a lead it would never relinquish –and Lander gradually built up a 13-point advantage (21-34) on an Armstrong three with 1:40 left in the half.

Lander established its biggest lead at 15 points on three occasions in the second half – 50-35, 52-37, and 55-40 – but the Lady Braves gradually whittled the Lady Bearcat margin to 63-59 on Fuller's layup with 6:35 left to play.

A Judge three, an Elkins jumper and a Briana Wade free throw stretched Lander's lead to 69-59 with 4:10 left to play.

The Lady Braves made one more rally and trimmed the gap to 71-68 with 1:46 remaining, but Lander closed the game with a 6-0 run.
