COLUMBUS, Ga. - The No. 11-ranked Lander men's tennis team saw its season come to an end Monday afternoon when the third-seeded Bearcats fell to 13th ranked and second-seeded Columbus State, 5-0, in the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional Tournament held at the Mary V. Blackmon Tennis Center.
Columbus State improves to 16-4, while Lander falls to 17-5.
In doubles, No. 1 Christophe Noblet/Gordan Divljak (C) def. Paul-Henri Arrigoni/Oscar Perman (L), 8-4; No. 2 Filip Cojbasic/Martin Shishkov (C) def. Henrik Willers/Oscar Axelsson (L), 8-6; and No. 3 Andre Mordhorst/Pasqual Duttlinger (C) def. Carlos Marques/Ross Armstrong (L), 8-2.
The match was halted after the Cougars won the Nos. 3 and 4 singles matches. At No. 3, Duttlinger (C) def. Marques (L), 6-1, 6-1; and No. 4 Mordhorst (C) def. Perman (L), 6-4, 6-4.
Columbus State will advance to the NCAA Division II national championship tournament to be held May 11-14 at Altamonte Springs, Fla.
