GREENWOOD – Hayley Leissner recorded a two-hit, shutout in the first game, and the Bearcats used a six-run, sixth inning in the second to sweep Le Moyne College, 6-0 and 10-8, Tuesday afternoon in a non-conference softball doubleheader at Doug Spears Field.
Lander improves to 13-10, while Le Moyne drops to 1-4.
In the first game, Leissner (6-6) earned the win after striking out 10 in the complete seven innings.
LeMoyne's Vanessa Utley (0-1) suffered the loss after striking out one, walking one and allowing four earned runs on three hits in 1.1 innings pitch.
Lander took a 4-0 lead in the second inning when Jaime Presnell's RBI single plated Jade Deason, Rachelle Adkins went home on a fielder's choice, Presnell scored on an error and Sarah Fuller advanced on an illegal pitch.
Taylor Donson's two-RBI double down the right line in the sixth plated Casey Corbitt and Brittney Sheriff to give Lander a 6-0 advantage.
For Lander, Donson (1-for-4) and Chasity Davis (1-for-4) both doubled, while Presnell went 3-for-3 with one run scored and one RBI, Arielle Buchholz went 3-for-3 and Adkins 2-for-3 with one run.
In the second game, Leissner earned her second win of the day with eight strikeouts, two walks and three earned runs on seven hits in six innings.
The Dolphins' Liz Weber (0-2) took the loss after she struck out two, walked four and allowed 10 earned runs on 12 hits in 5.1 innings of work.
Trailing 8-4 in the sixth inning, Lander's Alyssa Hartley doubled to center field to lead things off, then her and Fuller both advanced on Corbitt's single. Hartley scored on a bases loaded walk, Corbitt scored on a passed ball, Donson's RBI single plated Sheriff, Davis' RBI double scored Buchholz and Donson, and Presnell's RBI single drove in Deason.
The Bearcats took a 2-0 lead in the first inning when Donson's RBI single scored Sheriff and Donson went home on an Adkins RBI single.
LeMoyne tied the game at 2-2 in the second when Leah Ford's RBI double plated Demetra Kermidas and Ford later scored from third on a Lander throwing error.
Lander regained the lead at 4-2 in the second. With bases loaded and one out, Hartley scored on a wild pitch and Donson's RBI single sent Corbitt home.
The Dolphins cut the lead to 4-3 in the third on Ford's RBI single.
LeMoyne bounced back with four runs in the fourth to take a 7-4 advantage. Amanda Daum scored on a wild pitch, Kelcie Cashel's RBI single to left field plated Kristin Brown and Morgan Edmonson belted a two-run homer over the left field fence.
LeMoyne stretched its lead to 8-4 in the fifth on Weber's RBI single that pushed Ford across the plate.
For Lander, Donson (3-for-3, two runs, three RBI) and Davis (1-for-3, two RBI) both doubled, while Hartley batted 3-for-4 with two runs, Sheriff 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI and Corbitt 2-for-3 with two runs.
For Le Moyne, Edmonson went 2-for-4 with one run and two RBI, while Barb Shea (1-for-4, one run), Ford (2-for-3, two runs, two RBI) and Brown (1-for-3, one run) all doubled. Cashel batted 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
