GREENWOOD - The Lander softball team completed a dominant weekend with a 3-0 victory over Flagler on Sunday at Doug Spears Field, securing a Peach Belt Conference series sweep behind another standout performance from senior pitcher Mattye Geddings.
Geddings delivered a complete-game shutout, allowing just four hits while walking one and striking out one to improve to 12-2 on the season. The outing marked her fourth career complete-game shutout and anchored Lander's (26-13, 12-6 PBC) strong finish against the Saints (10-27, 6-12 PBC).
After three scoreless innings, Lander broke through in the fourth. Bella Angeli sparked the rally by reaching on a throwing error that allowed Isabella Santos to score. Later in the inning, Devon Kokoszka added a sacrifice fly to center field, bringing home Angeli for a 2-0 lead.
The Bearcats added an insurance run in the sixth when Emily Allen was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, forcing in Angeli to extend the lead to 3-0.
The Saints threatened in the seventh, but Samantha Bumgarner raced to the fence and made a game-ending catch in left field, robbing Flagler of a potential extra-base hit and preserving the shutout and series sweep.
Lander collected eight hits in the win, led by Kara VonAchen's perfect 3-for-3 performance at the plate. Reagan Hill chipped in with two hits, while Angeli scored twice.
Flagler pitcher Ava Matthews (3-6) was charged with the loss despite allowing just one earned run over six innings.
Geddings and the Lander defense took care of the rest, holding the Saints scoreless and stranding five runners to preserve the shutout.
