Box Score GREENEVILLE, Tenn. - Jasmine Judge became the Peach Belt Conference's all-time career record holder in three-point shots made and also netted her 1,000th career point Thursday night as the Lander women's basketball team upset No. 19 Tusculum, 68-56, in a non-conference contest.
Lander improves to 5-2 overall, while previously unbeaten Tusculum drops to 5-1.
Judge, a senior from Augusta, Ga., dropped in three treys, which was good enough to break the all-time PBC record of 311, set by USC Aiken's Meredith Legg. Judge, who scored 10 points, reached the 1,000-point milestone on her first basket of the evening.
Mukia Myrick led the Lander attack with 16 points, while Janyce Ealey added 15, Ciara Lyons 12, and Judge 10. Ealey completed her double-double by hauling down 10 rebounds, while Myrick dished off six assists and Brittni Johnson totaled four steals.
Tusculum was led by Linda Aughburns' 14-point, 14-rebound performance, while Kendal Baxter and April McCann netted 13 points each.
Lander connected on 20-of-63 field goals for 31.7 percent, including 7-of-21 threes for 33.3 percent. The Bearcats made 21-of-31 foul shots for 67.7 percent.
The Lady Pioneers connected on 19-of-51 floor shots for 37.3 percent, including 5-of-20 threes for 25 percent. Tusculum sank 13-of-17 free throws for 76.5 percent.
After Tusculum scored the first basket of the second half to take a 39-29 lead, Lander went on an 8-0 run on a three pointer by Judge and a Johnson three- and two-pointer to cut the lead to 39-37 with 16:37 left in the game.
The two teams were tied at 42- and 44-all, then another Judge three gave Lander a 47-44 advantage with 12:23 remaining to play and the Lady Bearcats were able to keep the lead the remainder of the game.
Myrick netted a free throw at 8:40 to give the Lady Bearcats a 54-47 lead with 8:40 left, then Lander stretched the margin to 11 points -- 67-56 -- on a pair of Myrick free throws with 30 seconds left to play.
After trading baskets to open the game, Lander went on a 9-0 run on two pointers by Ealey, Lyons and Barnes and a Myrick three to take go up 11-2 with 14:28 remaining in the first half.
Tusculum responded with a 13-3 run to regain the advantage at 15-14 at 9:52, then extended the lead to 23-15 with 7:00 minutes remainng in the first period.
Lander was able to cut the margin to two points at 23-21 with 5:31 left on a Lyons layup, but Tusculum followed with five unanswered points and a 28-21 lead on an Aughburns basket at 3:29.
The Lady Bearcats tied the game at 28-all on an Ealey three pointer, two Myrick free throws and a Lyons layup with 2:46 remaining, but Tusculum ended the half with a 7-1 run and a 35-29 advantage.
Lander next will host Southern Wesleyan at 5:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 10, in a non-conference game at Horne Arena.
