PEMBROKE, N.C. - Four Lander women's basketball players scored in double figures Wednesday night to lead the Lady Bearcats to a 66-51 Peach Belt Conference victory over UNC Pembroke.
Lander improves to 16-0 overall and 6-0 in the PBC, while UNCP slips to 5-8, 1-4.
Senior Shannon McKever posted a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds, while blocking seven shots. Tasheba Butler netted 14 points and eight rebounds, while Jasmine Judge and Mukia Myrick each had 12 points and five assists.
JaToya Kemp led UNCP with 14 points and nine rebounds. No other Lady Brave scored in double figures.
After staying close most of the first half, Lander broke a 19-19 tie with 7:00 left on a Butler jumper to make it 21-19.
Lander outscored the Lady Braves, 16-10, the remainder of the half to lead 37-29 at intermission.
Lander took its first double-figure lead at 50-39 on a Brianna Webb three with 13:41 left in the game. The Lady Bearcats maintained a double-digit lead the remainder of the game and led by as many as 16 points when Judge hit a three pointer with 5:55 left to give them a 61-45 advantage.
The Lady Bearcats connected on 27-of-63 field goals for 42.9 percent, including 9-of-25 threes for 36 percent. Lander also sank 3-of-4 free throws for 75 percent.
UNCP made 16-of-55 floor shots for 29.1 percent, including 5-of-16 threes for 31.3 percent. The Lady Braves also made 14-of-18 foul shots for 77.8 percent.
Lander, which outrebounded UNCP, 42-35, will travel to North Georgia College on Saturday for another PBC contest.
