Lady Bearcats move up to No. 9 in USA Today/ESPN poll

GREENWOOD - With two wins last week that clinched the Peach Belt Conference regular-season championship, the Lander women's basketball team inched up one spot to No. 9 today in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches Poll.

The Lady Bearcats, 24-2 overall, tied the school record for victories in a season and will host UNC Pembroke tonight in the first round of the PBC Tournament at 7 p.m. in Horne Arena.

Gannon retained the top spot with a 30-0 record and is followed by: 2. Franklin Pierce (25-1), 3. Indianapolis (26-2), 4. Fort Lewis (28-2), 5. Michigan Tech (25-2), 6. Arkansas Tech (25-2), 7. Fort Valley State (26-1), 8. Delta State (23-2), 9. Lander (24-2), and 10. Washburn (23-3).

The second 10 are: 11. West Texas A&M (26-3), 12. California-San Diego (24-3), 13. Alaska-Anchorage (22-3), 14. Holy Family (26-1), 15. Emporia State (23-4), 16. Tampa (24-3), 17. Francis Marion (24-3), 18. Seattle Pacific (22-3), 19. Concordia (23-4), and 20. Western Washington (22-4).

Rounding out the top 25 are: 21. Clayton State (21-6), 22. Carson-Newman (22-5), 23. Millersville (23-4), 24. Lenoir-Rhyne (20-6), and 25. Tarleton State (22-5).
