Softball wins two games at Aiken Early Bird tournament

AIKEN - The Lander softball team claimed two more games Sunday at the Aiken Early Bird Tournament when the Bearcats defeated Seton Hill, 6-0, then downed Mount Olive, 8-0.

Lander improves to 3-1 on the season.

Against Seton Hill, Shelbey Spencer collected the win on the mound as she struck out nine and allowed just one hit in six innings pitched.

Brittney Sheriff went 2-for-4 with one triple and one double, Haley Foster went 3-for-4 with three singles, Casey Corbitt 2-for-4 with one double and one single and Marilyn Newman went 2-for-3 with one double and one single.

Against Mount Olive, Haley Leissner improved her record to 2-0 with six strikeouts in six innings of work. The game was called due to the eight-run rule.

Rachelle Adkins went 2-for-4, while Ashley Proctor was 1-for-2 and Daisy Stewart and Corbitt 1-for-3.
