GREENWOOD - The Lander baseball, team pounded out 16 hits Sunday afternoon as the Bearcats completed its three-game, non-conference sweep of Felician College by defeating the Falcons, 11-5, at Legion Field.
Lander improves to 9-1 overall, while Felician drops to 0-3.
Cory Hopper (2-0) earned the win on the mound for the Bearcats as he struck out five, walked one and allowed three earned runs on nine hits in five innings pitched.
Felician's Phil Messerian (0-1) took the loss, striking out three, walking one and allowing seven earned runs on eight hits in five innings.
Felician took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning when Mickey Zudonyi, who doubled to left field, scored on Marcos Torres' RBI single to center field. The Falcons made it 3-0 in the third on RBI singles by Zudonyi and Dan Morris.
Lander tied the game at 3-3 in the third when Devin Ridlehoover scored on Pete Hernandez's RBI single, Robert Skinner scored on Jordan Owens' sacrifice fly and Ryan McNulty's RBI single scored Hernandez.
Lander rallied for three more runs in the fifth inning to take a 6-3 lead as Brooks Reames doubled in Owens, Alan Abreu scored on Joe Tebaldi's groundout and Aaron Fludd's RBI single plated Reames.
The Bearcats extended their lead to 11-3 in the five-run, sixth inning. Owens' double plated Hunter Dowis and Skinner, a bases-loaded walk scored Owens and Tebaldi finished the inning with a two-RBI double.
Felician cut the lead to 11-5 in the eighth on Joe Petosa's two-run, home run.
Owens (2-for-3, two runs scored, three RBI), Reames (3-for-3, one run, two RBI) and Tebaldi (1-for-5, three RBI) all doubled for the Bearcats, while Skinner went 4-for-5 with two runs scored and Abreu hit 2-for-4 with two runs.
For Felician, Petosa went 2-for-4 with one home run, while Zudonyi (2-for-4, two runs, one RBI), Chris Fogleman (1-for-1, one run) and Arche (2-for-2, one run) all doubled. Torres batted 2-for-3 with one RBI.
Lander will host Carson-Newman College at 2 p.m., Wednesday in a non-conference doubleheader at Legion Field.
