Hansen’s Five RBI Lift Lander to Series Win over GCSU

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - Ryan Hansen drove in five runs, including the go-ahead RBI single in the ninth, as the Lander baseball team earned a 9-8 win over Georgia College and State University on Sunday afternoon to secure the Peach Belt Conference series.

The Bearcats have now won four straight series against the Bobcats, the longest such streak in program history.

Hansen finished 3-for-5, with all three hits producing runs. He and Brody Winter each homered, and Hansen went deep in all three games of the series after entering the weekend with three home runs on the season.

Georgia College struck first with a two-RBI double in the opening inning and held the lead through the early stages.

Winter cut the deficit to one with a solo homer in the third, but the Bobcats answered in the bottom half on a wild pitch to maintain a 3-1 advantage.

Lander pulled even in the fifth as Hansen launched a two-run homer, and he gave the Bearcats their first lead in the sixth with a two-RBI single to make it 5-3.

The Bobcats responded with a pair of RBI singles and a run scoring on a failed pickoff to retake the lead in the sixth, then added another run in the seventh to go up 7-5.

Landen Still tied the game in the eighth with a two-RBI single, but GCSU answered again with an RBI hit to take an 8-7 lead into the ninth.

Zach Cowart led off the ninth with a walk and Mason Salisbury was hit by a pitch to put two on with no outs. A double steal moved both runners into scoring position, and Lowndes Still tied the game with a sacrifice fly.

With two outs, Hansen delivered the decisive hit, driving in pinch runner Dalton Stroud to give Lander a 9-8 lead.

Georgia College put the tying run in scoring position in the bottom of the ninth, but Joshua Sanchez induced an infield pop-up to record his third save of the season and secure the series win.

Lander's midweek game at Erskine has been canceled. The Bearcats return to action next Friday as they open their final conference series of the season at USC Beaufort, with first pitch set for 6 p.m.
