Lady Bearcats triumph over No. 24 Clayton State

GREENWOOD - TaSheba Butler and Ciara Lyons scored 22 and 20 points respectively Saturday afternoon to claim a Homecoming victory over the No. 24-ranked Clayton State Lady Lakers, 90-77, in a Peach Belt Conference contest in Horne Arena.

Lander improves to 16-9 overall and 11-7 in the PBC, while Clayton State drops to 20-5, 14-4.

Butler connected on 9-of-11 shots from the field and 4-of-4 from the free throw line while grabbing nine rebounds. Lyons made 10-of-19 shots and grabbed seven rebounds. Shannon McKever scored 12 points and Jasmine Judge netted 11. Brittni Johnson led the Lady Bearcats in assists with a game-high nine.

Nikkisha Pritchett scored 22 points to lead the Lady Lakers, while Shanrika Hardeman added a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

After finishing the first half in a 42-42 tie, Lander started pulling away with 14:11 left in the game when Kaylyn Small's free throw gave the Lady Bearcats a 57-55 lead. Lander went on a 12-2 run to make it 69-57 with 10:38 left on Johnson free throw.

Lander kept pressuring the Lady Lakers and reached its biggest lead of the game at 90-71 with 3:11 remaining on a layup by Lyons.

The Lady Bearcats connected on 36-of-72 shots for 50 percent, including 5-of-15 three pointers for 33.3 percent. Lander also made 13-of-21 free throws for 61.9 percent.

The Lakers were 28-of-68 from the floor for 41.2 percent, including 9-of-20 from the three-point line for 45 percent. Clayton State also made 12-of-21 foul shotsfor 57.1 percent.

Lander out-rebounded the Lady Lakers, 46-37.
