AIKEN - Lander's run for its second-ever appearance in the Peach Belt Conference volleyball tournament championship game ended Saturday when the sixth-seeded Bearcats fell to second-seeded Armstrong Atlantic, 3-0 (25-17, 25-22, 25-18), in the semifinals at the USC Aiken Convocation Center. Armstrong Atlantic (26-8) will face top-seeded Flagler College at 2 p.m. Sunday for the title and an automatic berth into the NCAA championship tournament. Lander ends the season at 18-15.
The Bearcats were led by freshman Lindsey Everhart, who totaled 12 kills, while Kendall Eayrs added eight kills, All-PBC selection Melissa McCracken six kills and nine digs, and Candace LaRocca 24 assists. Ashley Ferry, the PBC Libero of the Year, recorded 16 digs, while Abbey Focht had 10.
Armstrong Atlantic was led by Marina Mariova (10 kills, nine digs), Amy Birkemeier (nine kills), Kris Standhardinger (36 assists, 11 digs), Casey Howey (16 digs), and Torrie Bevolo (11 digs).
