PEMBROKE, N.C. - The Lander men's soccer team rallied from two goals down Saturday night to remain unbeaten in Peach Belt Conference play with a 4-3 win over UNC Pembroke.
Lander improves to 7-4-1 overall and 4-0-1 in the PBC, while UNC Pembroke dips to 7-7-1, 3-4-0.
Down 3-1 in the second half, the Bearcats scored two goals in a matter of minutes to tie it at 3-3. Samy Beydoun made it 3-2 off an assist from Adam Arthur at 63:28. Aaron Brittain, the 2008 PBC Player of the Year, then tied the game at 65:56 on an assist from Alex Pethick.
Andy Ludewig netted the game-winner at 87:33 on an assist from Stephen Magennis.
The Bearcats took a quick 1-0 lead at 5:05 when Craig Hughes flipped the ball over the goalkeeper on an assist from Ivan Stoykov.
UNCP tied the game at 1-1 on Andy Pullin's rebound shot off the post at 24:48.
The Braves took a 2-1 lead at 47:29 on Chicho Abreu's penalty kick and stretched the lead to 3-1 on Rondell Honora's one-on-one goal against Lander goalkeeper Matthew Atkinson.
UNCP outshot Lander, 16-14, and led in corner kicks, 3-2.
The Braves Tom Courtney recorded six saves in goal, while Atkinson had one.
Lander will travel to North Georgia College & State University on Monday for a PBC makeup game.
