Lady Bearcats rally falls short against Columbus State

COLUMBUS, Ga. - The Columbus State women's basketball team held off a furious Lander rally Saturday afternoon to claim an 81-76 Peach Belt Conference victory over the Lady Bearcats.

Columbus State improves to 8-3 overall and 1-0 in the PBC, while Lander drops to 6-3, 1-1.

Ciara Lyons led the Lady Bearcats with 20 points, while Mukia Myrick added 16, Jasmine Judge 14 and TaSheba Butler 12. Myrick also had a team-high six rebounds.

CSU's Chauntel Ferdinand scored a game-high 22 points, while Rosetta Hollis and Phebe Smith netted 13 each.

Lander, which trailed by as many as 17 points in the first half -- 38-21 with 5:10 left -- took a 65-62 lead on a Judge three pointer with 6:45 left in the game. Ferdinand tied the game for the Lady Cougars on a three at 6:31 and the Lady Cougars gradually distanced themselves from Lander.

Judge hit another key three pointer with 25 seconds left which cut the CSU lead to 79-76.

Lander connected on 30-of-76 field goals for 39.5 percent, 6-of-24 three pointers for 25 percent and 10-of-17 free throws for 58.8 percent.

CSU made 28-of-58 floor shots for 48.3 percent, 7-of-12 threes for 58.3 percent and 18-of-28 foul shots for 64.3 percent.
