GREENWOOD - The No. 19-ranked Francis Marion men's tennis team rallied from a 2-1 deficit in doubles to win four single matches and defeat No. 13 Lander, 5-4, in the NCAA Division II Mid-Atlantic Region championship Friday afternoon at The Joe Cabri Courts.
Francis Marion, which improves to 18-5 overall, advances to the NCAA Division II national tournament, May 14-17, in Houston, Tex. Lander finishes the season with an 18-7 record.
In doubles, No. 1 Guilherme Fonseca/Damien Cordesse (LU) def. Oshada Wijemanne/Dilshod Sharifi (FMU), 8-6; No. 2 Franklyn Emmanuel/Dananjaya Mayadunne (FMU) def. T.C. Valle/Henrik Willers (LU), 8-2; and No. 3 Carlos Benatzky/Andre Ivarsson (LU) def. Karl Rogers/Matthew Keth (FMU), 8-6.
