SAVANNAH, Ga. - The No. 17 ranked Georgia College & State University men's tennis team upset No. 15 Lander, 5-4, Saturday in the semifinals of the Peach Belt Conference tournament hosted by Armstrong Atlantic State University.
GCSU improves to 16-5 overall, while Lander slips to 16-6. Lander, the second seed, will face fifth-seeded Columbus State at 2 p.m. in the third-place consolation match.
Lander won two of three doubles matches, but the Bobcats came back and claimed four of six singles to seal the win.
In doubles, No. 1 Damien Cordesse/Guilherme Fonseca (LU) def. Erick Siqueira/Francis Yoshimoto, 9-7; No. 2 T.C. Valle/Henrik Willers (LU) def. Matthew Belenchia/JoaoCasagrande, 8-6; and No. 3 Max Beliankou/Giovane Nucci (GCSU) def. Carlos Benatzky/Andfre Ivarsson, 8-5.
In singles, No. 1 Erick Siqueira (GCSU) def. Guilherme Fonseca, 6-3, 6-1; No. 2 Damien Cordesse (LU) def. Francis Yoshimoto, 3-6, 6-5, 6-5, retired; No. 3 Max Beliankou (GCSU) def. Henrik Willers, 2-6, 6-2, 6-2; No. 4 Giovane Nucci (GCSU) def. Andre Ivarsson, 6-4, 6-1; No. 5. Joao Casagrande (GCSU) def. T.C. Valle, 7-5, 7-5; and No. 6 Juan Manrique (LU) def. Matthew Belenchia, 6-1, 6-3.
