FLORENCE, S.C.---The Lander baseball team evened its record at 2-2 Friday afternoon when the Bearcats defeated St. Andrews Presbyterian College, 6-3, in a non-conference game in the Swamp Fox Challenge hosted by Francis Marion University.
Daniel Hinchberger (2-0) earned the win and remained unbeaten on the season as he allowed three runs on seven hits in seven innings pitched.
B.J. Horne (1-1) took the loss for St. Andrews, striking out six, walking one and allowing six runs (four earned) on 11 hits in 6.1 innings pitched.
St. Andrews scored all three of its runs in the first inning when Sam Williams, Matt Harkness and Vince Giunta all collected RBI singles.
Lander tied the game 3-3 in the second inning. TJ Guinan led off with a single and scored on Brooks Arnette's RBI double. Josh Lovvorn singled down the right field line scoring Arnette. Lovvorn later scored on Robert Skinner's sacrifice fly.
The Bearcats stretched the lead to 6-3 in the third inning. AJ Nunziato led off with a triple and scored on Guinan's RBI triple. Arnette reached on a fielding error by Horne, scoring Guinan. Arnette then scored on an error by first baseman Williams.
Guinan went 3-for-4 with one triple, two runs and one RBI; and Nunziato went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run scored. Arnette (2-for-4, two runs, one RBI) and Lovvorn (3-for-4, one run, two RBI) both doubled.
