GAFFNEY - The No. 9-ranked Lander men's soccer team dropped its first game in six weeks when the Bearcats were defeated by No. 24 Limestone College, 1-0, Tuesday in a non-conference game.
The Saints and Lander fought a scoreless battle for 86 minutes until Limestone's Lee Smyth scored to give the Saints the 1-0 win.
The Saints, who re-entered the NSCAA Division II national rankings today, climb to 12-2-1, while Lander dropped to 10-2-1.
Both teams saw solid performances from their defenders and goalkeepers. Lander's Billy Hale had eight saves, while Limestone's Mark Davidson posted six.
Limestone edged Lander 7-5 on shots in the first half, but outshot the Bearcats 11-6 in the second period. The Saints had nine corner kicks to the visitors' five.
Lander will face Clayton State in Morrow, Ga., on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
