AUGUSTA, Ga. -- The Peach Belt Conference announced the 2007 men's tennis All-Conference team at a banquet on the campus of Augusta State University on the eve of the championship tournament. Lander's Joakim Karlsson was named the PBC Player of the Year while Armstrong Atlantic State's Cristian Bergh was named the Freshman of the Year. AASU coach Simon Earnshaw was named the Coach of the Year.
Karlsson is currently the fifth-ranked singles player in the nation in NCAA Division II. A sophomore from Smalandstennar, Sweden, he was 24-4 at the No. 1 singles spot and 8-1 against PBC opponents. He was 11-3 against opponents ranked in the top 50 by the ITA and is the top-rated men's singles player in the mid-Atlantic region. He was also 17-8 in doubles during the year.
The 2006 PBC Freshman of the Year continues a strong tradition of Bearcat men's tennis, becoming the seventh Lander player to be named the PBC Player of the Year, the first since Claes Persson in 1996.
