ELIZABETHTOWN, N.C.----The Lander golf team, paced by co-leaders Billy Belair and Cooper Tinsley, took a nine-shot lead on the first-day of the 14-team Carolina Sands Intercollegiate Saturday. The tournament is being hosted by UNC Pembroke at the par-72, 6,925-yard Carolina Sand Golf Club.

Belair and Tinsley both shot 68s, while Charlie Hoyle followed in fifth place with 70, Jake Amos was in 20th with a 74, and Patrick Wilson shot an 87.

In the team competition, Lander was followed by: 2. Barton 289, 3. Catawba 291, 4. UNC Pembroke 292, 5. Newberry "A" 295, 6. Mount Olive 301, 7. Newberry "B" 304, 8. Tusculum and Cape Fear 305, 10. Lenoir-Rhyne 306, 11. Nassau 307, 12. Georgia Southwestern 311, 13. Virginia State 336, and 14. Felician 369.
