No. 10 Lander men’s tennis edges No. 11 Upstate, 5-4

GREENWOOD----The No. 10-ranked Lander men's tennis team only won one of three doubles matches, but scored upsets in two nationally-ranked singles battles Wednesday afternoon and went on to defeat No. 11 USC Upstate, 5-4, in a Peach Belt Conference matchup at the Joe Cabri Courts.

Lander improves to 10-5 overall and 5-1 in the PBC.

Lander's Andre Ivarsson and Joakim Karlsson teamed to beat Upstate's Javier Tori and Sebastian Gonzales-Orbegoso, 8-4, at No. 1 doubles. USC Upstate was victorious at No. 2 doubles with Stefan Dumitrescu/Renzo Airaldi defeating Lander's Guilherme Fonseca/Nicolas Legros, 8-4, while the No. 3 team of Jack Roux/Leandro Osorio defeated Lander's T.C. Valle/George Wilkinson, 8-5.

In the No. 1 singles match, Lander's Karlsson, who is ranked No. 8 nationally, defeated Upstate's No. 5-ranked Dumitrescu, 5-7, 7-5, 7-5, while at No. 2 singles, LU's No. 32-ranked Nicolas Legros defeated Upstate's No. 27 Sandy Franz, 4-6, 7-6, 6-3.

In other singles matches, No. 3 Tori (Upstate) def. Fonseca, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1; No. 4 Ivarsson (LU) def. Orbegoso, 0-6, 6-4, 6-4; No. 5 Wilkinson (LU) def. Lovera, 6-3, 6-1; and No. 6 Roux (Upstate) def. Nick Tzekos, 7-5, 6-0.
