Lady Bearcats fall to Augusta State, 85-69

AUGUSTA, Ga.----After hitting 50 percent of its shots in the first half, the Lander women's basketball team was held to 19 percent in the second as they lost to Augusta State, 85-69, in a Peach Belt Conference contest Saturday afternoon in Christenberry Fieldhouse.

Augusta State improves to 14-6 overall and 6-4 in the PBC, while Lander drops to 11-10, 5-5.

Tiara Good led the Lady Bearcats with 24 points, five rebounds and four assists, while April McClendon added 20 points and 11 rebounds and Stephanie Ponds chipped in 16 points and eight rebounds.

Deo Ngulela led the Lady Jags with 17 points, while Alla Batovska had 13. Sherika Parker posted a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Lander, which led 48-46 at halftime, connected on 26-of-71 field goals for 36.6 percent, 5-of-17 three pointers for 29.4 percent and 12-of-15 free throws for 80 percent. The Lady Bearcats made only 6-of-31 field goals in the second half.

Augusta State made 32-of-76 field goals for 42.1 percent, 8-of-15 three pointers for 53.3 percent and 13-of-18 foul shots for 72.2 percent.
