PEMBROKE, N.C.----Lander head women's basketball coach Kevin Pederson earned his 100th career victory Wednesday night when the Lady Bearcats defeated UNC Pembroke, 75-66, in a Peach Belt Conference contest in the English E. Jones Center.
Lander improves to 7-8 overall and 2-3 in the Peach Belt Conference, while UNCP dropped to 4-12, 2-4.
Pederson, in his second year at Lander, was 13-9 in his debut season at Anderson University in 2001-02 and followed with respective records of 17-12, 25-7 and 33-3. Pederson posted a 5-23 record last season, his first at Lander.
Tierra Kirkland led the Lady Bearcats with 20 points on 10-of-21 shooting. Bryony Crouch scored 18 points; Tiara Good had 17 points, eight assists and six rebounds; and Stephanie Ponds totaled 15 points, 13 rebounds and four blocked shots.
The Lady Braves were led by Natasha Stotler's game-high 21 points and nine rebounds. Victoria Willis added 11 points and Ivy Ramsey scored 10.
UNC Pembroke, which led 34-30 at halftime, made 24-of-63 shots for 38.1 percent, 9-of-20 three-point shots for 45 percent and 9-of-16 free throws for 56.3 percent.
Lander made 31-of-67 field goals for 46.3 percent, 9-of-21 three pointers for 42.9 percent and 4-of-8 free throws for 50 percent.
