Lady Bearcats fall to Columbus State in PBC tournament

GREENWOOD, S.C -- Columbus State held Lander to a Peach Belt Conference Tournament record low 37 points as the Cougars took a 71-37 victory over the Bearcats in the first round of the PBC Tournament at Horne Arena.

Columbus State (17-14) led 12-11 midway through the first half and went on a 22-2 run over the final 11 minutes of the half to open a commanding 34-13 lead at halftime. In the second half, Columbus State opened a 30-point lead, 49-19, with 13:29 to play and the lead grew to 41 points, 61-20, with 7:58 remaining in the game as the Cougars cruised to the victory.

Columbus State shot 45.3% from the floor for the game and was 57.1% from three-point range. The Cougars held Lander (5-23) to 30.8% shooting from the floor and forced the Bearcats into 26 turnovers, scoring 33 points off of Lander miscues.

The 37-point output by Lander broke the previous low scoring record in the Peach Belt Tournament held by USC Aiken. The Pacers scored 38 points in the 2001 PBC Tournament championship game against Columbus State. That game was also played in Horne Arena.

Abena Bosia led Columbus State with 16 points, while Erin Gibbs finished with 14. Cherwonna Walker added 12 points.

Bryony Crouch led Lander with a game-high 17 points as the only Bearcat in double figures. She also dished out four assists.
