SAVANNAH, Ga. – Armstrong Atlantic State captured the Peach Belt Conference regular season volleyball title outright with a 3-0 win over Lander on Saturday afternoon in Savannah. Game scores were: 32-30, 30-13, 30-25.
The Pirates (21-11, 11-1 PBC) received a scare early from the Bearcats (9-22, 0-12 PBC), who pushed game one to 32-30 by hitting .268 with 15 kills, but AASU edged out game one, then hit .350 in game two to take control of the match. AASU tied a season high by registering 15 service aces in the three-game match and the win gives the Pirates the No. 1 seed in the upcoming PBC Championships in Augusta on Nov. 11-12.
Junior Traci Knuth was the only player for either team to register double-digit kills, tallying 11 to lead the Pirates. Sophomore Margaret Thornton tallied 20 assists and junior Adriana Miller registered 11 digs for AASU, while Lander was led by Christy Plecha's nine kills, Claire Damon's 16 assists and Sara Senn and Melissa Trippany's 10 digs apiece.
