Lander Sweeps No. 13 Lenoir-Rhyne in Statement Home Performance

GREENWOOD - Lander completed a statement sweep over No. 13 Lenoir-Rhyne on Wednesday at Doug Spears Field, using a late offensive burst to take Game 1, 8-6, before rolling to an 8-0 run-rule victory in five innings in Game 2.

The Bearcats improved to 21-9 on the season, securing their third ranked win of the year.

Game 1: Lander 8, Lenoir-Rhyne 6

Lander struck first and maintained control early before fending off a late push from the Bears.

The Bearcats opened the scoring in the first inning on an RBI single from Reagan Hill, then added to the lead with a sacrifice fly in the third. Hill continued her standout performance in the fifth, delivering an RBI double before Bella Angeli followed with a bunt single to extend the lead to 4-0.

Lenoir-Rhyne responded in the sixth, scoring four runs to even the game at 4-4, but Lander answered immediately in the bottom half. The Bearcats plated four runs in the inning, highlighted by Angeli's two-run double and RBI contributions from Hill and Kaylee Youmans, to regain control at 8-4.

The Bears added a two-run home run in the seventh, but freshman Anna Phifer closed the door to secure the win in relief, improving to 4-1 on the season.

Hill led the offense, going 3-for-3 with four RBIs, while Angeli added two hits and three RBIs. Emily Allen also contributed a pair of hits as Lander totaled nine in the opener.

Game 2: Lander 8, Lenoir-Rhyne 0 (5 innings)

Lander carried its momentum into Game 2, where senior pitcher Mattye Geddings delivered a dominant performance in the circle.

Geddings tossed a complete-game shutout, allowing just two hits over five innings while striking out two to improve to 8-1 on the year. It marked the first shutout of her career.

Offensively, Lander broke through in the second inning, scoring three runs behind an RBI groundout from Kara VonAchen and capitalizing on a Lenoir-Rhyne error.

The Bearcats added another run in the third on a sacrifice fly from Hill before putting the game away in the fifth. Emily Allen launched a solo home run to start the inning, and Lander followed with three more runs, capped by Angeli's two-run triple, to trigger the run rule.

Hill again led the way at the plate, going 2-for-2 with two RBIs, while Isabella Santos recorded two hits and scored a run. Lander finished with seven hits and took advantage of timely execution to secure the sweep.

Hear from Head Coach Maddie Gibbs following the sweep:
