NEWBERRY, S.C. - The No. 12 Lander acrobatics and tumbling team backed up its national ranking with a dominant performance Wednesday night, defeating Newberry 263.700-172.165 on the road.

The Bearcats (6-2), who jumped from No. 14 in the preseason poll to No. 12 in the first regular-season rankings released by the National Collegiate Acrobatics & Tumbling Association earlier in the day, delivered a record-setting night from start to finish.

Lander set the tone in the compulsory event with a program-record 38.20 out of 40.00. The highlight came in the pyramid heat, where the Bearcats earned a perfect 10.0, a new program record. Lander also posted scores of 9.65 in acro, 9.70 in toss and 8.85 in tumbling to take control early.

The Bearcats continued to build their lead in the acro event, totaling 29.15 behind season-high scores in the six-element (9.50) and seven-element (9.80) heats.

Lander followed with a 29.20 in pyramid, highlighted by a season-best 9.90 in the open heat.

In the toss event, the Bearcats totaled 27.25, led by a 9.45 in the 450 salto heat.

Lander closed out the meet with a strong showing in tumbling, posting a 53.000. The Bearcats recorded season highs in the trio (8.350), quad (7.650), six-element (9.375) and open pass (9.700).

Lander sealed the win with an 86.90 in the team event to secure the 91.535-point victory over the Wolves.

Newberry (0-4) totaled 172.165 in the meet.

Lander will have a bye week before awaiting seeding for the Conference Carolinas Championship. The Bearcats currently sit second in the conference standings behind Wingate University.
