Zarza Earns Third PBC Player of the Week Honor

AUGUSTA, Ga. - Lander's Maria Jose Zarza has been named the Peach Belt Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week, the league office announced, marking her third honor of the season and of her career.

Zarza continued her strong spring at the top of the Bearcats' lineup, earning a ranked victory at No. 1 singles in Lander's road match at Belmont Abbey. The junior defeated Belmont Abbey's Kaitlin Nguyen, ranked No. 71 nationally, in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4, for Lander's lone point in a 6-1 team loss.

With the win, Zarza improved to a perfect 7-0 in singles play this season, remaining unbeaten while consistently facing top competition at the No. 1 position.

Lander returns to action Tuesday, March 24, traveling to Florence, S.C., for a rescheduled match against Francis Marion at 2:30 p.m.
