TAMPA, Fla. – Beginning a three-game road trip in the Sunshine State this week, the Lander women's lacrosse team lost to the No. 5 Tampa Spartans 22-6 on Monday afternoon.
Emelia Tippett had her second two-goal game of the season for the Bearcats (2-3) and also collected two draw controls.
Caroline Nicholson scored for the fifth consecutive game while
Ella Benson,
Morgan Hill and
Sophie Warren scored Lander's other goals.
Tampa (2-1) was ahead 4-0 when Warren scored on the advantage to put LU on the board with five minutes left in the first quarter.
Tippett scored at the beginning of the second quarter to halve the Spartans' lead to 4-2 and she also made it 6-3 with eight minutes to go in the half.
Tampa led 10-3 at halftime.
Hill jumpstarted the Bearcats 30 seconds into the second half with a score, but the Spartans held an 18-5 lead after three.
Benson caused a team-leading four turnovers today in addition to her fourth-quarter goal.
Freshman
Emersin Clamp saw her first game action in goal across the final 15 minutes and made three saves.
The Bearcats will play No. 2 Florida Southern on Thursday, March 5 at 11 a.m.
