Lander Stretches Winning Streak to Eight With Sweep of Emmanuel

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. – The Lander softball team followed a 1-0 pitcher's duel victory in Game 1 with an 11-1 offensive outburst in Game 2 to sweep a nonconference doubleheader from Emmanuel on Tuesday afternoon.

The wins extend Lander's winning streak to eight games, the program's longest since a nine-game streak in 2023.

Emily Allen and Bella Angeli each collected four hits across the two games. Samantha Bumgarner added a solo home run as part of a nightcap in which five Bearcats recorded multiple hits.

Game 1: Lander 1, Emmanuel 0

Paige Sherman delivered a gem in the opener for the Bearcats, tossing a complete game for her fourth of the season. The sophomore allowed five hits over seven innings while inducing 16 of her 21 outs via ground balls.

Lander (18-7) had at least one runner on base in three of the first four innings but did not break through until the fourth, when Angeli drove in Isabella Santos with an RBI double for what proved to be the game's lone run.

Emmanuel (3-22) put the tying run at second base in its final at-bat, but Sherman recorded two groundouts to close out the game and earn her sixth win of the season.

Game 2: Lander 11, Emmanuel 1 (6 inn.)

Reagan Hill wasted no time giving Lander the lead, ripping a two-run double in the opening inning to make it 2-0.

Devon Kokoszka and Kara Vonachen added RBI singles in the third inning to push the lead to 4-0. An RBI fielder's choice off the bat of Savanna Price extended the advantage to 5-0 after three innings.

Bumgarner made it 6-0 with a first-pitch solo home run in the fourth, and Angeli added another RBI double to push the lead to seven.

Emmanuel got on the scoreboard with a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth, but the Bearcats answered in the fifth when Allen scored on a wild pitch to make it 8-1.

Lander added three more runs in the sixth, highlighted by an RBI single from Allen and two additional runs scoring on wild pitches.
