No. 14 Lander Tops Montevallo Behind Strong Middle Rotations

MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The No. 14 Lander acrobatics and tumbling team earned a road victory Saturday afternoon, defeating Montevallo 252.765-233.540.

The Bearcats trailed slightly after the Compulsory event but controlled the meet through the middle rotations, winning the Acro, Pyramid, Toss, and Tumbling events to pull away from the Falcons.

Montevallo narrowly edged Lander in the opening Compulsory event, 35.750-35.450. Lander posted a 9.600 in the pyramid portion and a 9.550 in the Toss event to stay within striking distance heading into the next event.

The Bearcats responded in the Acro event, winning all three heats to take the lead. Lander scored 9.400 in Heat 1, 8.800 in Heat 2, and 9.600 in Heat 3 for a 27.800-25.400 event win, moving ahead 63.250-61.150.

Lander extended its lead in the Pyramid event with consistent performances across all three heats. The Bearcats posted scores of 9.150, 9.300, and 9.200 to win the event 27.650-24.400 and push the running total to 90.900-85.550.

The Bearcats maintained momentum in the Toss event. A 9.650 in Heat 1 highlighted the rotation as Lander won the event 27.000-25.450 to build a 117.900-111.000 advantage entering tumbling.

Lander delivered its strongest performances in the Tumbling event, winning four of the six heats. The Bearcats recorded standout scores of 9.500 in Heat 4 and 9.625 in Heat 6 on the way to a 52.325-45.450 event victory.

Lander capped the meet with an 82.540 in the team event to secure the 252.765-233.540 win at Montevallo.

The Bearcats will return home Thursday, March 19, when they host Converse at 6 p.m. in Finis Horne Arena for Senior Night.
