No. 14 Lander Sweeps Tri-Meet at Mars Hill

MARS HILL, N.C. - No. 14 Lander acrobatics and tumbling delivered a strong all-around performance Friday night, defeating both Mars Hill and Belmont Abbey in a tri-meet at Stanford Arena to finish 2-0 on the evening.

The Bearcats posted a meet-best score of 253.995, comfortably ahead of Mars Hill (237.835) and Belmont Abbey (231.945), improving to 3-1 overall this season.

Lander established control early and never relinquished momentum. The Bearcats opened with a dominant showing in the compulsory event, scoring 37.75 points, the top total among the three teams, highlighted by strong execution in the pyramid and toss heats.

The advantage continued to grow during the acro and pyramid events, where Lander combined for nearly 60 points. Clean routines and high start values allowed the Bearcats to steadily separate themselves from the field, particularly in the pyramid event, where Lander posted a 29.80 total.

Tumbling proved to be another key difference-maker. Lander recorded the highest tumbling score of the meet with a 52.325, highlighted by standout performances in the aerial, 6-element, and open passes that helped extend the Bearcats' lead heading into the final rotation.

Holding a comfortable cushion entering the team event, Lander sealed the sweep with a solid closing routine, finishing with an 81.37 in the team event to secure the tri-meet victory.

The Bearcats led at the halfway point with a score of 93.75 and continued to build their margin throughout the second half, showcasing consistency across events to outpace both opponents.

Lander will look to carry the momentum forward as it travels to Saint Leo for a dual match on Friday, March 6, in Florida.
