GREENWOOD – An hour up the road in Anderson on Wednesday night, the Lander men's lacrosse team suffered its first loss this season, 19-10, to the No. 6 Trojans at Spero Financial Field in non-conference action.
LU (4-1) had eight different goal-scorers tonight, led by
Sean Reilly and
Carson Skinner with two each.
Luke Aspnes,
Nathan DeThomasis,
Chase Hanson,
Levi Roest,
Josh Rosa and
Dane Schimmel scored once.
Despite trailing 2-0 at the beginning of the game, goals from Skinner and Rosa made it a brand-new game with 4:30 to go in the first.
AU (3-0) scored three goals in short order to make it 5-2 but Schimmel and Roest lessened the Trojans' advantage to 5-4 7:20 before halftime.
Anderson got hot and led 9-5 following the second and increased its lead to 13-5 over the first 10:30 of the third quarter.
Reilly broke Lander's scoring drought with three minutes left in the third.
The Bearcats trailed 16-6 to start the fourth and outscored the Trojans 4-3 to end the night.
Max Porterfield made 18 saves on 34 shots on goal in 45 minutes.
Lander will play a pair of neutral-site games over the next nine days. Their first will be at noon this Sunday, March 1 against Palm Beach Atlantic in Marietta, Ga.
