Late Run Lifts USC Beaufort Past Lander, 73-66

BEAUFORT, S.C. - Quadaija Langley notched her ninth 20-point performance of the season Monday night, but Lander came up short on the road, falling 73-66 to the University of South Carolina Beaufort (16-8, 13-4 PBC), which currently sits second in the conference standings.

Lander (8-15, 6-10 PBC) battled throughout in a game that featured eight ties and seven lead changes. The Bearcats led for more than 16 minutes and held their final advantage at 47-46 with 3:37 remaining in the third quarter.

Langley finished 6-of-21 from the field and 6-of-7 from the free-throw line, adding three assists and two steals in 36 minutes. Trinity Thomas added 14 points, five rebounds, two steals, and a block off the bench, and Alindria Dudley contributed 13 points, hitting 2-of-3 from 3-point range.

Lander built its largest lead at 32-25 midway through the second quarter and carried that momentum into halftime before USC Beaufort responded with a strong second-half push.

The Sand Sharks shot 50.9% from the field (28-of-55) and dominated inside, outscoring Lander 50-16 in the paint. They also controlled the boards, outrebounding the Bearcats 40-28, including 15 offensive rebounds that led to 19 second-chance points.

Lander shot 33.9% (20-of-59) overall and 30.8% (8-of-26) from 3-point range, while converting 18-of-27 free throws. The Bearcats forced 24 turnovers and turned them into 29 points, finishing with 12 steals and 19 bench points.

USC Beaufort extended its lead to as many as 15 points with under three minutes remaining in the fourth quarter to seal the conference victory.

For Lander, the performance marked another competitive effort against one of the league's top teams, with Langley continuing to pace the offense as the regular season moves forward.

Lander will have a quick turnaround, returning home Wednesday to host Georgia Southwestern in a Peach Belt Conference matchup. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. at Finis Horne Arena.
