Balanced Attack, Hot Shooting Lead Lander Past Georgia Southwestern, 62-46

GREENWOOD - The Lander University women's basketball team used a strong defensive effort and efficient perimeter shooting to secure a 62-46 Peach Belt Conference victory over Georgia Southwestern on Wednesday night at Finis Horne Arena.

The Bearcats (9-15, 7-10 PBC) controlled the game from the outset and never trailed, leading for more than 39 minutes and building a lead as large as 21 in the fourth quarter. Lander's defense set the tone early, holding Georgia Southwestern (10-14, 6-11 PBC) to just 31.5% shooting and 17.4% from three-point range.

Lander found its rhythm offensively behind its outside shooting, knocking down 11 three-pointers at a 42.3% clip. Senior Kayla Tilus led the Bearcats with 12 points, connecting on three shots from beyond the arc while adding a team-high eight rebounds. Junior Alindria Dudley also scored 12 points and dished out a team-best five assists to pace the offense.

The Bearcats established control in the opening quarter and maintained steady separation throughout the contest. Lander's defensive pressure forced 25 Georgia Southwestern turnovers, which helped prevent the Hurricanes from mounting any sustained comeback attempt.

Quadaija Langley added 11 points and three steals, while Trinity Thomas contributed eight points, four assists, and four rebounds. Serenity Echols anchored the glass with a game-high nine rebounds and added seven points.

Lander also received key contributions off the bench, including six points from freshman Camillea Gore, who knocked down a three-pointer and finished a perfect 2-for-2 from the field.

The Bearcats held a 40-31 advantage on the boards and converted second-chance opportunities into 15 points. Lander's defensive effort was highlighted by 15 steals, helping the Bearcats maintain control throughout the night.

Georgia Southwestern never held a lead, and Lander's consistent defensive presence and balanced scoring ensured the Bearcats remained comfortably ahead down the stretch.

Lander returns to action Saturday, Feb. 21, traveling to face USC Aiken in Peach Belt Conference play. Tipoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. in Aiken, S.C.
