Bearcats Drop Midweek Conference Game at Augusta

AUGUSTA, Ga. - The Lander women's basketball team struggled to find its offensive rhythm Wednesday night, falling 71-39 to Augusta in Peach Belt Conference action.

The Bearcats (7-14, 5-9 PBC) shot just 24.6% from the floor and 16.7% from 3-point range as Augusta (16-7, 11-5 PBC) controlled the game from the opening tip. The Jaguars led for 39:13 of the contest and never trailed, building a double-digit advantage in the first quarter and extending it steadily throughout the night.

Augusta shot 48% from the field and an efficient 6-of-9 (66.7%) from beyond the arc, taking a 34-point lead midway through the fourth quarter. The Jaguars also capitalized on Lander miscues, scoring 23 points off 23 Bearcat turnovers.

Despite the final margin, Lander battled on the glass, finishing with 16 offensive rebounds and only a 38-35 deficit overall. Serenity Echols led the way with eight rebounds, while Kayla Tilus added five boards and four points.

Alindria Dudley paced the Bearcats offensively with 12 points, knocking down two 3-pointers and adding six rebounds and two steals. Quadaija Langley followed with 10 points, connecting on a pair of 3-pointers and going a perfect 4-for-4 from the free-throw line, while also recording four steals.

Freshman Seriya Williams provided a spark in limited minutes, scoring five points on 2-of-2 shooting and grabbing three rebounds.

Augusta outscored Lander 34-16 in the paint and 25-11 in bench points, while also holding a 16-6 edge in fast-break scoring.

Lander will look to regroup Saturday when it returns home to host Flagler on Senior Day at 1:30 p.m. inside Finis Horne Arena in Peach Belt Conference play.
