AMERICUS, Ga. – Paige Bailey scored the game-tying goal in the 79th minute to secure Lander a point in the conference standings and a 1-1 result against Georgia Southwestern on Wednesday night.
Rylee King sent a free-kick into the box from the right wing,
Maddie Leber got her head on it and
Langley Stewart shuffled it over to Bailey who tucked it in the bottom left corner.
The sudden jolt almost catapulted the Bearcats to the lead soon after as
Angele Hills was denied from close range four minutes later. Then, with less than a minute left, the Bearcats produced a corner kick. A scrum for the ball ensued in front of the net and it was eventually kicked out by a Hurricane which set Lander up with a throw-in with 10 ticks left.
Stewart settled
Bri Little's throw quickly and delivered a cross into the box that Bailey got a head to, but it went over the goal in an exciting finish.
Hills was earlier denied from point-blank range in the 6th minute before GSW scored its goal in the 16th minute.
Lander guided the action during the second half especially, where it outshot the Canes 10-2 and put four shots on target. The Bearcats (6-2-3, 1-2-2 PBC) held a 15-6 advantage in shots over the whole match and put five on goal to four for GSW (1-4-6, 0-2-4 PBC).
LU will honor seven Bearcats this Saturday, Oct. 17 on Senior Day when it takes on Middle Georgia at 1 p.m.
