Offense Falters as Lander Drops Midweek Contest at GSW

AMERICUS, Ga. - Lander women's basketball struggled to find consistency on the offensive end Wednesday night, dropping a midweek conference road contest 64-53 to Georgia Southwestern at the Storm Dome.

The Bearcats (3-10) stayed competitive early, holding a brief lead midway through the second quarter, but Georgia Southwestern (8-5) used efficient shooting and perimeter scoring to seize control for most of the night. The Hurricanes led for nearly 33 minutes and built their largest advantage at 14 points early in the third quarter.

Lander shot just 27.4% (20-of-73) from the field and 23.8% from three-point range, while Georgia Southwestern connected at a 41.7% clip (20-of-48) and knocked down eight three-pointers. The Hurricanes also made the most of their chances at the free-throw line, going 16-of-20 compared to Lander's 8-of-17.

Despite the loss, Lander controlled the glass, outrebounding Georgia Southwestern 48-40 and grabbing 25 offensive rebounds. The Bearcats also forced 24 turnovers and scored 22 points off those miscues, but could not convert enough second-chance opportunities to close the gap.

Quadaija Langley paced Lander with 13 points and seven rebounds, while Serenity Echols posted season-best totals of 12 points and a team-leading 10 boards. Alindria Dudley chipped in 10 points, and Lauren Crosland finished with nine.

Georgia Southwestern was paced by Madison Brittle, who poured in a game-high 26 points on 9-of-13 shooting, including six three-pointers.

Lander will aim to bounce back as conference action resumes this weekend, welcoming Augusta (9-4, 5-2 PBC) to Horne Arena on Saturday, Jan. 10, with tipoff set for 1:30 p.m.
