Langley’s late free throws lift Lander past Augusta in stunning home upset

GREENWOOD - Quadaija Langley sank two clutch free throws in the final seconds to punctuate a furious fourth-quarter comeback as Lander's women's basketball team stunned Augusta 66-65 in a dramatic home conference victory Saturday.

Langley finished with a game-high 22 points and delivered the decisive moment in the end. The breakout performance helped lift the Bearcats (3-10) past one of the league's top teams, as Augusta entered the day 5-2 in conference play and 9-4 overall.

Lander erased a 17-point deficit and dominated the final period, outscoring Augusta 17-4 in the fourth quarter. The Bearcats' defense fueled the rally, forcing key turnovers and limiting Augusta to just one field goal in the final 10 minutes.

Langley, Alindria Dudley, and Lauren Crosland spearheaded the defensive effort, combining for 13 steals. Dudley came up with several timely plays late, including pressure defense and finishes at the rim that swung momentum firmly in Lander's favor. She finished with 11 points, six rebounds, and four steals.

Crosland added 16 points and four steals, while Lauryn Hunt controlled the boards with 11 rebounds as Lander outrebounded Augusta 41-31, including 19 offensive rebounds that created crucial second-chance opportunities.

Augusta led for more than 31 minutes and shot 47.3% from the field, but was undone by 23 turnovers and a scoreless stretch late. The Jaguars last led with four seconds remaining before Langley calmly stepped to the line and sealed the upset.

Lander led for just over seven minutes total, but the final ones proved decisive, as the Bearcats completed one of their most impressive wins of the season in front of the home crowd.

The Bearcats will look to build on the momentum Wednesday night when they travel to St. Augustine, Fla., for a conference matchup against Flagler, with tipoff set for 5:30 p.m.
