Bearcats Blank Barton 7-0 in Season-Opening Sweep

FLORENCE, S.C. - The No. 21 Lander men's tennis team wasted no time setting the tone for the 2026 season, delivering a dominant 7-0 victory over Barton College Friday afternoon at a neutral-site match in Florence.

The Bearcats opened the match by sweeping all three doubles courts to secure the early point. The nationally ranked No. 2 doubles duo of Harry Pugh and Brendan Jayaprakash led the charge at No. 1 doubles with a convincing 6-2 win.

The No. 22-ranked tandem of Anton Krondell and Max Barriere followed with a 6-1 victory at No. 2, while Julian Peter and Benjamin Bates closed doubles play with a 6-1 decision at No. 3.

Carrying momentum into singles, Lander continued to control the match from top to bottom. Nationally ranked No. 13, Pugh battled through a competitive first set before pulling away for a straight-sets win at No. 1 singles, 7-6 (7-3 TB), 6-3.

Jayaprakash secured a 6-4, 6-2 victory at No. 2, while Krondell (6-3, 6-1) and Ismail ElShafei (6-4, 6-4) added wins at Nos. 3 and 4, respectively.
