Bearcats play to scoreless draw at Saints

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Battling a hot and sun-filled day on Saints Field at Flagler College, the No. 19 Lander men's soccer team played to a scoreless draw on Wednesday afternoon in a Peach Belt contest.

It's the fifth draw through six games this season for the Bearcats, who are now 1-0-5, 1-0-2 PBC. The Saints are 4-1-2, 1-0-1 PBC with a conference win over Clayton State.

Lander put four shots on the keeper in the first 45 minutes and nine overall in the first half.

Christian Hatley nearly nailed a pair of free-kicks from the left side of the pitch in the 24th and 28th minutes that were pushed aside by Flagler's keeper.

Orran Mushet had another great opportunity from inside the penalty area in the 35th minute that was kicked away by the goalie.

In the second half, the Bearcats managed one shot on net and two total – the second a header from Ryosuke Tanaka that went above the net in the 71st minute – as the defenses bore down as the game progressed.

Conrad Knight made a handful of key saves late in the going to preserve a clean sheet for himself and the Bearcats. Knight has allowed just three goals in four games while making 13 saves.

Lander is on the road again this Saturday at Clayton State. The match will kick-off at 3:30 p.m. from Laker Field.
