GREENWOOD – In convincing 5-0 fashion against Middle Georgia State on Saturday night at Van Taylor Stadium, the Lander men's soccer team earned their first win after four consecutive draws to open 2025.
The conference win pushes the Bearcats' record to 1-0-4, 1-0-1 in the Peach Belt Conference while the Knights are now 2-2-1, 0-2-0 PBC after previously losing to Georgia Southwestern.
Lander had its way offensively to the tune of 20 shots and 10 on net compared to eight and five for Middle Georgia.
Christian Hatley scored twice for the second straight game while adding an assist for a five-point night.
The Nottingham, England-native successfully converted a penalty kick after
Daniel Restrepo was tripped in the penalty box by the Knights' keeper in the 15th minute; Hatley scored to the bottom-left. He later scored in the 21st minute to increase the Lander lead to 2-0.
Hatley closed his scoring book when he found fellow Englishman
Callum Stokes close to the net in the 26th minute for a 3-0 lead that the Bearcats carried into halftime.
Sophomore
Josh Murray headed in his first career goal in the 81st minute off a Restrepo cross before
Orran Mushet tallied the fifth and final goal of the night two minutes later, with
Zach Meyer getting the helper.
Freshman
Conrad Knight kept a clean sheet in goal with five saves for the Bearcats in his first career win.
Lander is back in action at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 24, against Flagler at Saints Field.
