DAHLONEGA, Ga. – On the road to open Peach Belt Conference play versus North Georgia on Wednesday night, the No. 21 Lander men's soccer team grabbed a 2-2 draw and earned a point in the standings.
It's the fourth consecutive draw for the Bearcats to begin the season, while the Nighthawks moved to 1-2-3, 0-0-1 in the PBC.
Christian Hatley's penalty kick in the 49th minute tied the game and was necessitated by a UNG defender kicking
Giacomo Sartori to the ground from behind on a corner kick. Hatley beat the keeper to the bottom left.
Hatley struck again in the 86th minute with another PK after the UNG keeper tripped him in the goal area as he was attempting to put in a rebound off a
Ryosuke Tanaka shot. Again, Hatley went bottom left and got it past the keeper.
UNG was awarded a penalty kick of its own in the 89th minute and tied the game.
Both sides had 10 shots during the contest and Lander held a slight edge in shots-on-goal with seven against the hosts' six.
One of those shots on net came off the head of
Tal Torgeman early in the fourth minute that was narrowly pushed aside by the Nighthawks' keeper.
Lander returns home to Van Taylor Stadium this Saturday night, Sept. 20, for a 7:00 PBC match versus Middle Georgia State.
