Bearcats Sweep Doubleheader at Augusta to Cap Regular Season

AUGUSTA, Ga. - Lander closed out its regular season with a dominant doubleheader sweep over Augusta on Saturday, taking both games convincingly to win the series and head into the Peach Belt Conference Tournament with momentum.

The Bearcats (24-24) exploded offensively in Game 1 and delivered a strong all-around performance in Game 2, securing their final regular-season victories on the road.

Game One: Lander 13, Augusta 3

Lander struck early and often in the opener, plating four runs in the first inning and adding six more in the sixth to run away with a 13-3 win in seven innings.

Samantha Bumgarner powered the offense, going 2-for-4 with a double, a home run, and four RBIs. Kara VonAchen added a pair of hits, two runs, and two RBIs, while Gracie Derrick delivered a two-run triple to cap off the six-run sixth.

Senior Emily Allen also had a day at the plate for the Bearcats going 3-for-5 scoring two runs. Linda Moore, Naya Jones, and Reagan Hill each recorded an RBI, and Hill and Jones each scored twice.

Jacy Ayers (4-6) earned the win in the circle, tossing six strong innings and allowing just five hits and two earned runs with just two walks. The Bearcats collected 13 hits in the game and took advantage of two Augusta errors.

Game Two: Lander 7, Augusta 1

The Bearcats carried the momentum into Game 2, using a late offensive surge and a quality start from Alyssa Grimes to secure a 7-1 victory and the series.

Raquel Camuglia led the charge at the plate, driving in four runs, including a three-run homer at the top of the seventh, which sealed the win. Linda Moore continued her productive day with two RBIs, and Bumgarner and Hill added another multi-hit game.

Grimes (2-3) earned the win, limiting Augusta to just one run on one hit over three innings while striking out one.

Lander also got strong relief efforts from Mattye Geddings and Jacy Ayers to shut down any chance of an Augusta comeback. Geddings tossed three scoreless innings, allowing just two hits while keeping the Jaguars off balance. Ayers followed with a clean seventh, striking out one and sealing the victory with her second appearance on the day.

With the regular season complete, Lander will now turn its focus to the Peach Belt Conference Tournament.
