Bearcats Drop Doubleheader at Tusculum

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. - The Lander Bearcats dropped both games of a Tuesday doubleheader against Tusculum at Red Edmonds Field, falling 7-2 and 4-2. Despite tallying eight hits in each contest, the Bearcats couldn't convert enough chances to keep up with the Pioneers.

Game One: Tusculum 7, Lander 2

Lander (22–22) took an early lead in the opener when Sajarie Jones scored an unearned run in the first inning off a Kara VonAchen single. However, Tusculum (36–15) answered in the bottom half and pulled away behind a six-run effort in the final three frames.

Linda Moore gave the Bearcats a spark in the sixth with an RBI triple, scoring Samantha Bumgarner, but the Pioneers responded with three runs in the bottom half, including a two-run double.

Paige Sherman (5–6) took the loss for Lander, allowing 12 hits and five earned runs over six innings. Megan Ackerman (20–8) earned the win for Tusculum, striking out one and walking two.

Game Two: Tusculum 4, Lander 2

The nightcap followed a similar script. Lander again struck first, with Raquel Camuglia drawing a bases-loaded walk in the opening frame. Tusculum turned the game around with a three-run homer in the fourth inning.

The Pioneers added an insurance run in the fifth with an RBI bunt single. Lander threatened in the sixth, pulling within two runs on a Naya Jones RBI single, but left the bases loaded.

Jacy Ayers (3–6) was tagged with the loss, allowing four runs over six innings.
